Barn At Silver Oaks Estate | Kaci and Casey

Central Maine Barn Wedding | Winthrop, Maine DJ

I’ve known Kaci’s mom (Kristi) for years. Throughout my career as a Maine DJ, I’ve worked alongside Kristi at the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch dozens of times. Over that time as professional colleagues and friends, we collaborated on corporate events, wedding receptions and many private parties. From day one Kristi has always been welcoming and accommodating and a true joy to work with. So much so that Kristi was the coordinator for my wedding in 2015.

So, when Kaci reached out telling me who her mom was and asking if I was available to DJ her wedding, I was thrilled! Kaci is fun, energetic and full of life. When her fiance Casey joined her at my house for the initial discussion about services I could tell their reception was going to be a ton of fun. We were months into planning when that dreaded word, Covid, hit. Suddenly, Kaci and Casey were forced to revisit every aspect of their upcoming wedding at The Barn At Silver Oaks Estate.

The Initial Plan

A big party. Lots of fun. I mean, really it is that simple, right? Like everyone, Kaci and Casey were planning a “traditional” wedding experience. Free of social distancing, masks, limited guest count and – in many ways – stress free (in comparison). Their initial entertainment package included a photo booth and lots of lighting. After many detailed conversations about the impact Covid was having on their planning we revised their entertainment package to allow for distancing and safety of guests.

The Revised Plan

Instead of a photo booth with shared props, we opted for an outdoor sound system and flat screen TV. This allowed Kaci to seat half of her guests outside and still hear what was happening inside the barn. What was the TV used for? I brought a 4k camera and streamed everything that happened inside the barn to the TV located outside for guests to see. This allowed for a limited guest count inside and overflow outside. It also gave those guests who were uncomfortable with being inside an opportunity to be involved with the reception.

Wedding Highlights

Everything came together wonderfully. If you are considering a barn location for your Maine wedding, I would highly recommend touring The Barn at Silver Oaks Estates. Gene and Veronica, the owners, are phenomenal and they really go above and beyond for their couples. The property is well thought out and provides for a wonderful flow to the day. The ceremony and cocktail locations require additional sound systems which is a conversation you should have with the company providing your entertainment.  Inside the barn is stunning. For Kaci and Casey’s wedding I provided color controlled uplighting and we were all very pleased with the transformation once dancing started.

Of course, the guest count was limited to due to Covid but the dance floor was still active and guests young and old were having a lot of fun. Here’s a quick highlight video recapping their reception.
