Cheverus High School Gala

audio visual production. And drape… So much drape. 

This was a fun one! Our first time working with Cheverus High School and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the final result. But, before we look at how the event came together, let’s talk about the prep and what the event included.

We first met with Kelly back in March to begin the final phase of planning their annual Gala. The event took place in their gymnasium and would require a total makeover for the event. In total, we provided over 300ft of black drapery. Yup, 300 feet of drape! In addition to draping the entire perimeter of the basketball court, we also provided uplighting, stage lighting, video screens, staging, a podium, sound system, and microphones. This was a full audio-visual production and we were excited to fully transform the space.

Due to the size of the production (mostly the drape), this ended up being a three-day affair for our staff. We set the event on Friday, hosted the event on Saturday, and tore down the equipment on Sunday. There were a lot of labor hours involved in this one (drapery takes a long time). But the end result was truly stunning. Guests, administration, and faculty all had wonderful things to say about how the was produced, how it looked, and how it sounded.

For those who are interested in the equipment used to produce this event let’s break it down! As already mentioned we used 300ft of drapery. The drapery was 12ft tall and we supplied all of the uprights, crossbars, base plates, and additional hardware. From an audio standpoint, we used Shure ULXD wireless microphones, and QSC K8 speakers and operated the entire event off the QSC Touchmix 16 digital mixer. I controlled all of the audio levels from the back of the room wirelessly off a tablet to ensure the podium microphone and performance microphones could be heard clearly throughout the entire space. 

When it came to lighting we opted for our wireless LED battery uplights. We had 60 of these throughout the room on the drapery. The colors were purple and gold to match the Cheverus school colors. On the stage, we had a stage wash to highlight the individuals speaking at the podium. The podium used was our clear acrylic podium which always brings an element of sophistication to every event. From a stage standpoint, this one was small. We provided 6 panels of our 4×4 stage decks to make an 8ft deep by 12ft wide stage. We used 24″ legs to get the stage off the ground a bit and ensure a clean line of site for all guests. 

From a visual standpoint, we ran a pair of 75″ TV screens left and right of the stage. These were used to display the presentation for the night provided by Kelly and her staff at Cheverus.
