Mia’s Mitzvah at Southern Maine Community College

I’ve really been looking forward to this one! When Mia’s Mom, Petra, reached out about providing services for her daughter’s Bat Mitzvah in South Portland, Maine, I was super excited. Petra had been referred to me by a former client and I was confident that I could pull together the theming that Petra had in mind for the celebration. We worked tirelessly on crafting an entertainment experience that hit on all the key elements.

With a lot of experience with school and teen events, I was comfortable with the music portion of the night. But, if you’ve never been to a Mitzvah before music is a small part of the overall celebration. Much of the night relies on emcee work and facilitating formalities and games.

Let’s talk about entertainment

In addition to providing DJ services, I was also responsible for color-controlled uplighting, dance floor lighting, an open-style photo booth, multimedia screens, and giveaways.

The uplighting was set to pink throughout the event space to match the other decor elements. The TV screens were used to present a formal slideshow along with displaying music videos and photo booth images. The dance floor lighting added a splash of color and excitement to the dance floor once the party kicked into full tilt. And the giveaways, well.. who doesn’t like glow necklaces and foam tubes?

Much of the entertainment consisted of party games for Mia and her friends to play during the Mitzvah celebration. For this event, we played Coke and Pepsi (a classic Mitzvah game), Musical Chairs Scavenger Hunt, 21, did the Limbo, played head/shoulder/knees/noodle, and did a hula hoop relay race.

Party games are a great way to build excitement into an event for a younger audience. Mia, along with her friends and family, had an amazing time and it truly was a pleasure getting to know the family throughout the planning process. Here are a few photos from the event. Enjoy!
