Hybrid Event Producer

Well, Covid shows no signs of going away.. So, here we are. Another streaming production! This time for our good friends over in Auburn, Maine at Central Maine Community College. Under normal circumstances this event is hosted at the Ramada Inn with a 300+ person crowd.

In 2020 it was cancelled.

Now, after a year of adjusting we find ourselves helping CMCC to produce a virtual event. Unsure of what a virtual event is? It’s simple, really. We safely invite as many people as possible for the in-person audience and the remaining attendees watch online. The in-person audience is dictated by the current gathering capacity as mandated from the state.

For this event, we were capped at 50 people inside (all safely spaced) and the remaining attendees watched on YouTube.

From a programming standpoint, we displayed slide decks and videos to the in-person and virtual audience. The virtual audience also had a two camera video feed of the podiums and award presentation.

We used Sony DSLR cameras to stream our 1080p production to YouTube. The video and audio was routed through our Roland VR50 and the microphones were our trusted Shure ULX-D Beta 87s. CMCC has an in-house 16×9 LED Video wall where we fed the powerpoint signal into and we also put the audio for the in-person audience through the sound system we installed for them nearly 10 years ago.

Certainly, the event looked differently but the fact that we were able to press forward with a re-imagined event was pretty remarkable. Of course, we’re all looking forward to getting back to in person, 300+ attendee events. Hopefully next year!
