Maine wedding during a hurricane!
The weather in 2023 certainly proved challenging. Sara and Brian’s wedding at O’Maine Studio in Portland, Maine happened during the hurricane weekend with heavy rain and high winds. Thankfully, O’Maine Studio never lost power so while many people planning weddings throughout Maine that weekend were scrambling, Sara and Brian were able to carry on with their plans.

This was my first time at O’Maine Studio and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I checked out photos on their website and looked through blog posts from other weddings at the venue in an effort to familiarize myself with the property. When I arrived for Sara and Brian’s wedding reception, my first thought was “Wow.. awesome!”
It’s an industrial space with some very cool features. Inside the room, we hosted the ceremony, cocktails, dinner, and dancing. For services, I provided DJ Entertainment and uplighting services.
Let’s talk about the party…
I have to back up for just a moment.. Whenever possible, I love having the opportunity to meet with couples before their wedding day. Part of that is my natural planning process. However, I enjoy getting a sense of everyone’s personality. I find those meetings and conversations invaluable when it comes to helping me understand exactly what my couples are looking for.
I sat down and had a few beers with Sara and Brian at Flight Deck Brewing. Awesome spot, by the way. Anyways, during our meeting, it became very clear that both Sara and Brian love to party and I was super excited that their wedding day was finally here. Because of the hurricane, everyone’s stress levels were a bit elevated, but once the dance floor opened it was simply amazing. As the night kicked off I played a variety of music to appease all age groups. There was a wide range of ages in attendance ranging from kids to grandparents. As the night went on (and it was a long, awesome party), I got to play a lot of throwback hip-hop. Such a fun vibe that Sara and Brian created and it was truly memorable. Talk about making the absolute most out of a hurricane weekend!
