Planning a wedding?

3 things you should know before booking a DJ!

1. Do Your Research

Transparency is key. Make sure any DJ you are considering has relevant content to share with you. Photos. Videos. Mixes. Check out their websites and social media pages to get a feel for their style and professionalism. It’s 2024…if your DJ doesn’t have a website, are they truly a professional? If they can’t show you examples of their work, should you trust them to lead the biggest day of your life?

Odds are, you aren’t going to see the DJ perform at an event before your wedding. Get photos of what their DJ booth looks like. Ask for videos from previous events. Do everything you can to make sure the company you hire can connect with you and your guests. A true professional will be able to provide you with a portfolio of work to help you make an informed decision.

2. Discuss Your Music Preferences

Your wedding is yours. The music should match your vibe and be a reflection of your personality. Let them know what your style is and make sure they can align themselves musically. It is better to find out early if the DJ isn’t well-versed in the music you want for your reception. Most wedding DJs are considered open-format, meaning their music knowledge spans most genres. A good DJ will be able to tailor their playlist to your tastes. A great DJ will find those tracks that curate crazy emotions on the dance floor.

There are so many good records out there…if cliche wedding songs aren’t for you, make sure you test the DJ’s music knowledge before hiring them.

3. Schedule A Meeting

After you narrow down your search, take a few minutes to schedule a time to meet. This can be by phone, video call, or in person. The DJ you hire will be your Event Host and the face of your wedding. There’s no editing their performance. You want to make sure they are articulate, upbeat, and can deliver the wedding of your dreams. Simply taking 15 minutes out of your day to have a detailed conversation will tell you everything you need to know about the company you are considering.

While speaking to potential DJs ask them about their favorite music, what their Emcee style is, and how long they’ve been in the wedding industry. These conversations are mutual and by the time the conversation wraps up, you’ll know if they are the right fit for your wedding. And, honestly, the DJ will be able to tell you if they feel like they’re the right fit for you.

I’m honest when I talk with couples… if you’re looking for an entertainment company that leads line dances and is on the microphone non-stop – I’m not the guy. Understanding expectations and being able to deliver the results you want should be the top priority of any company you talk with.

About ME

I started DJing at the age of 14. I absolutely love music and I love creating unforgettable moments on the dance floor. Leveraging my skills as a DJ, I’ve had the honor of helping thousands of people celebrate significant milestones in their lives.

Weddings go beyond just hitting play or making routine announcements; they require meticulous planning, hard work, creativity combined with enthusiasm, and the ability to connect with those in attendance. Each wedding has a unique vibe and my goal is to understand and immerse myself in it. You won’t find me walking into a wedding with a predetermined playlist. I want to read the room, feel the energy, and play to your crowd. Your wedding is about you and the biggest pleasure I get is helping to bring that vision to life.
