Ah, the rain! ceremony in the rain but with the perfect backdrop

Wedding season is in full swing but, wow, has it been wet! Hard to believe after such a beautiful Memorial Day weekend; but, here we are. What I love though is that Carolyn and Ali were fully committed to their oceanfront ceremony, and even though it rained (i.e. poured), guests braved the elements to witness a beautiful wedding ceremony. I know firsthand how important it was that Carolyn and Ali hosted their ceremony outside, so I braved the elements as well. While most DJs would not set their equipment out in the rain, I opted to give it a go. Thankfully, I’ve had rain covers custom-made for most of my speakers so I felt relatively comfortable with the decision. The unknown was the microphones. Typically, I don’t put the microphones out in the pouring rain but because it had been raining all day, I knew guests wouldn’t sit nearby and I wanted the ceremony to still be heard by those standing at a distance. The result? Everything went smoothly. The equipment survived and Carolyn and Ali got to say ‘I Do’ with the ocean as their backdrop. And, honestly, the photos that Leigh from Nadra Photography captured were stunning.

The Party!

This was my first time working at the York Harbor Inn and I have to say, it was a lot of fun! Despite the rain, Carolyn and Ali’s family and friends came together to celebrate and have fun. I think we all used cocktail hour to dry off and warm up, but by the time introductions rolled around everyone was full of energy and ready to party. Maine Event Design and Decor provided the perfect backdrop for Carolyn and Ali’s sweetheart table and added drapery suspended above the dance floor. When the dance floor opened and the reception got started, I played a variety of classic tracks. Everything from KC & The Sunshine Band, Jackson 5, Aretha Franklin up to Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Coi Leray.

I think that’s what I love most about being a wedding DJ and traveling throughout Maine. Each crowd is truly unique and therefore the soundtrack for the night has to be personalized to what they enjoy. I talk to so many wedding coordinators and wedding planners that say DJs play the same music every single weekend. Sure, there are a handful of songs that probably come to mind that get played every weekend. But, beyond that, it’s so crucial that the DJ read the crowd and performs based on what works (and what doesn’t).

In Their Words

We hired DJ Greg for our wedding, including ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. He came highly recommended from another vendor we hired. After meeting with him, I noticed his professionalism, thoroughness, and flexibility. It can be overwhelming to choose music and songs for an event, but he was more than willing to assist where necessary. He answered any questions I had without any hesitation and made sure he understood our style when we met with him.

We had an outdoor ceremony in a location that was very important to my husband and me. In the last hour the weather forecast changed to 90% chance rain. I took a gamble and crossed my fingers it would be a light rain, so we could still get married in our favorite location. Unfortunately, it ended up raining pretty heavily but our ceremony went on. We were incredibly grateful that Greg stuck with us through the whole ceremony, while getting poured on. That shows huge commitment and dedication to his customers.

During our reception, we also had the social booth which our guests LOVED. They were either at the social booth or dancing the night away. It was important to me that our DJ have a professional appearance as l’ve seen some messy looking set ups with cords all over, causing quite an eyesore.

DJ Greg had a beautiful and professional set up that helped put the final touches to the clean look we were going for. My guests remarked how well the DJ was “reading the room” with his playlist, which is an important factor. I would hire DJ Greg In a heartbeat!
